I am Taimus Werner-Gibbings, Labor’s youngest and newest candidate in Brindabella. I live in Gowrie with my wife Libby and our two boys, Cesc ( age 6) and Henson ( age 4), who attend their local public primary school.
I was born in Deniliquin NSW, roughly 35 years ago, then grew up in Weston Creek, attending Weston Primary School and Stromlo High, before going on to Lake Tuggeranong College. I graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Law, asked Libby to marry me at the top of the Eiffel Tower and have lived with Type 1 diabetes since I was 17.
I played aussie rules for the Weston Creek Wildcats, cricket for the Tuggeranong Valley Cricket Club and performed in numerous Canberra musical productions including Les Miserables and Oliver! I also performed at the Closing Ceremony of the Sydney Olympics (a highlight!). I have worked in the public service since 2005, including as an environmental policy adviser for Federal Labor in government and opposition. I have been published recently in ABC Grandstand’s UNSUNG SPORTING HEROES Anthology (2013) and Eureka: Australia’s Greatest Story (2015).
Because I believe Tuggeranong is worth it. Because Canberra’s most beautiful and family-friendly community deserves an optimistic, fair dinkum representative who wants to fight for Tuggeranong and is focused on promoting our possibilities.
Because I understand how important better health, better schools, and better development are to the people of Tuggeranong.
Because the parents at school and the patients at the health practice are all telling me that we can’t wait.
And they’re right.
